Comment:

 The dir/status stuff is v2 only; a new interface to get v3 stuff would be
 welcome.  I'm not going to get to it before the small-features deadline
 for 0.2.4 though.

 Another wrinkle is that the ns/* stuff is still in v2 format, because we
 don't want to break compatibility. Maybe that needs a new interface too?
 Or is there enough info there to work with?
