Shim's HTTP proxy code is more complex than a SOCKS proxy and on that, I
think we agree. The question is - if we have that kind of complexity is
there a benefit?
Onion routing is in itself quite complex but for the goal of anonymity,
we're taking a more complex route to make the goal a reality. Complexity
is not a really compelling argument against the interface - bugs exist in
all tools - the compelling argument for me would be that it wouldn't help
anyone to be more anonymous or to use Tor more safely than they are today.
That argument though wouldn't fly because the reality appears to be the
exact opposite. Users *require* an HTTP interface to Tor and they're
either getting it unsafely or they're not getting it at all. That seems
less than ideal.
