best idea, but a good general purpose mechanism to control stream
isolation from outside the Tor daemon itself and a separate HTTP->SOCKS5
proxy designed to make use of that does.

I generally agree from every perspective excepting usability. As it stands
now our users have a spattering of different http proxy servers or _no_
HTTP proxy server. The former results in crazy mis-configurations and
security issues, the latter results in leaks (!) and worse.

If Tor launches it as we do with tor-fw-helper, I think it isn't really
"inside Tor" in a meaningful sense. I think a thread is generally "inside
Tor" and in this case, I'm torn - if it is a thread, users will just get
an HTTP proxy without any fuss, once we solve the fussy part for them. If
it is a program we exec(), I am certain it won't be as straight forward
for them to actually use it.
