 There are two goals, afaiu the situation:

 The first goal is to set up a new build VM from scratch, documenting every
 tiny step along the way, to have a document similar to
 https://gitweb.torproject.org/torbrowser.git/blob/master:/docs/buildmachine_setups/osx.txt
 except for windows. That will give us more confidence and also make mike a
 happier person.

 The second goal is to have one machine (the new one) for building, and
 nothing else, while the other machine is used for testing (first manual,
 and then also automatic) and can be a little bit more exposed.
