 who said anything about using ICANN registrars?  There are at least four
 other TLD providers. Granted ICANN has the monopoly right now.

 how sure are we that our internal .onion never leaks and will never hit a
 TLD .onion, say if some black ops/organized crime org bought .onion from
 ICANN.
