 This is because when TorBirdy starts, we select `Local Folders` to prevent
 it from automatically logging in to your email account; this is a side-
 effect of doing so.

 If you really need to disable the message pane '''and''' you are OK with
 TorBirdy logging in to your last accessed account: open TorBirdy's
 preferences, go to `Privacy Settings` and check the `Select last accessed
 mail folder on startup`.

 This will fix your problem, but TorBirdy will select the last accessed
 folder and login to that when Thunderbird starts. If you are OK with that,
 you can safely change this setting and then the message pane will remain
 disabled.
