Comment:

 Still nice to have, but will not happen for the metrics website.

 The component where it really makes sense not to wait for a 24-hour period
 to end is the censorship detector.  I wonder if it should have its own
 [https://research.torproject.org/techreports/countingusers-2010-11-30.pdf
 calculation of estimated user numbers] that is decoupled from the metrics
 website.  That calculation would sync metrics data every few hours and
 could use a rolling 24-hour average to detect changes even faster.

 That's not something I can look into anytime soon, so unassigning from
 myself.  Maybe asn wants to take a look?
