 Well, this is a crash bug atm, so we should think about what we're trying
 to do here before the next 0.2.2.x release.  I believe that the new code
 fixes that crash bug, even if the logic could be improved.  I do not know
 what the right logic is.  Maybe build a truth table and figure out what it
 should be?  I tried that, and came up with this, so I am not the one to to
 it.
