Comment:

 I looked more into this and it seems we'll have to bypass ggplot2 and
 manipulate plot rendering with the R package grid. How ugly. Let's not do
 that and just live with the attribution in the x axis caption. Closing as
 wontfix. Roger, please re-open if you disagree.
