Comment:

Perhaps I misspoke. To clarify, the last 'alpha' I tried was from your
nightly builds where I received the same error message about needing to
have Win 7 installed, that version was 8.5a4 Nov 22, if that helps.

 Which is odd because
I downloaded the one you gave a link to and it installed fine with two
exceptions: one, it did not give a confirmation box when it was done to
say it was done, so I had no idea when it finished, or if it installed
correctly. I ran it anyway and it seemed to be running ok. It then
updated to 8.09a, and then updated again to 8.5a4.

Also, when updating, 2 files triggered my virus protection as virus
threats and it removed them, I don't what what that means for your
software: "heu_cdplc007" and "heu_cdplc013". The first showed up twice
(because I tired installing it twice in two different locations), first as
"access denied" and then "removed", and the second (013 file) says
"restart required" to remove it (which I haven't done yet). These
happened during the torbrowser updates, so I know these to be part of your
software. Are those legit, or should I let them be removed?

So far, it seems to be working better than when I first posted, but I
haven't had the chance to do much yet. However, even just in trying to
click the tabs just upon start up/launch, it's better. Before, it was not
responding even that early, so it was really bad before. At least this
time, I can post this from the new alpha version.

One other thing I suggest or ask is how to tell if you're browsing in
private mode or not, is there an icon somewhere? At one point, there was
a small icon at the top right next to the tabs so you knew for sure.

 Thank you very much.
