Tails ===== Project 165 ----------- - Got our website and documentation ready for Tails 7.0. (#20203) Tails 7.0 has been moved forward to September 18. I'll continue working on less critical improvements identified through the inventory done in July as time allows. - Reported 3 more issues or possible improvements identified while testing more bits of our documentation against Tails 7.0. - Researched how Windows 11 helps with USB sticks "disappearing" after installing from Windows. We set a "hidden" GPT flag on the Tails partition to prevent Windows and users tempering with it. As a result, after installing Tails on Windows, the USB stick disappear from the file browser. People get confused and sometimes think that Tails broke their USB stick. In Windows 11: * The USB stick can still be seen in Settings → Storage → Disks & volumes. (#21128) * The USB stick can be reformatted to uninstall Tails from the Settings as well. Until now, people had to reformat on the Windows command line. (#21132) * Even a FAT partition placed after the Tails partition appears in the file browser. We could provide help in such a partition. (#18770) - Designed a notification to warn the user when the RAM requirements are not met. (#5502) - Tested the boot speed of Tails 7.0 with zstd compression. (#18655) zstd makes the boot 10-15 s faster on recent laptops. Other Tor products ================== - Reported a bug against Tor Browser 15.0a1 in Debian. https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/applications/tor-browser/-/issues/44114 - Tested Mullvad Browser and discussed doing usability tests to compare the usability of web content, installation process, and core tasks of Mullvad Browser and Tor Browser. -- sajolida The Tor Project — UX Designer
